Does Reiki Follow a Specific Religion?

You've probably been wondering, but haven't been sure how to ask. Does Reiki follow a specific religion, or is it a religion itself?! So, I'll just cut to the chase and answer the question for you!

First of all, the clear answer to the first question, "Is Reiki a religion", no. Reiki itself is not a religion. Although Reiki can be viewed as a spiritual practice, no it cannot be considered a religion. First, religion asks you to have faith in something that cannot be proved by science. The way Reiki works however, can be proven by science, so you aren't being asked to give up or give in to any faith blindly. The next reason Reiki cannot be considered a religion is because religion, by definition, asks you to worship someone or something. In Reiki no one is worshiped, and all living beings are seen as divine.

For the next question, "does Reiki follow a specific religion?". No, Reiki does not follow any specific religion. Although the founding of Reiki was built heavily on the Buddhist, Taoist, and Hindu principles, you can find these same principles and morals in nearly, if not all religion or moral practice. Reiki is also taught according to the Japanese tradition of sensei, or teacher, student because Reiki was founded in Japan, not because of any specific religion. Reiki is not dependent upon any belief and it will work even if you do not believe in it, because it is backed by science, not faith. Reiki is an energetic healing modality. It is not magic. Reiki is the term for the energy spark inside each of us that is the essence of our being. Whatever you choose to call it, science shows it is energy. And we can harness this energy to heal ourselves and each other!(science has proved it, just look up Joe Dispenza!)
