Astral Projection is an intentional out of body experience, the soul body projects into the astral realms to detach from the physical body. An out of body experience or OBE is an experience in which the person experiences the world from a location outside of their physical body.
I’ve heard in the past fearful conversation of the practice. One person told me they were scared to try it because they heard stories of people being trapped in another world far away from their body. People around them thought their physical body was dead or in a coma. I don’t believe this to be true as I have never had trouble getting back to my body. When we die or sometimes go into a coma its true, we astral project, but death and commas are not a result of astral projecting. Rather, astral projection is a result of death or a coma.
Here we are talking about inducing an intentional out of body experience which suggests the fact that death or entering a coma is not the only way to induce such an experience. I’ve found quite often during meditation I astral project. Lucid dream states are also opportunities for astral projection. Which can sometimes be referred to as “Dream Walking”. The only difference between astral projecting and dream walking is how well you will remember it. Typically dream walking will be remembered as foggy or like a dream after you’ve projected yourself into someone else’s dream. While astral projecting you will have a clear mind and memory and feel everything as being more real than real.
Out of body experiences can be deeply healing to our physical and spiritual bodies. This is also a very good way of manifesting what you wish to experience. You can create an intent to go where you wish, see, and do what you wish. Personally I enjoy just going where the universe is going to take me. The experience of it all is worthwhile in itself.
Reality is created by thought projection (consciousness) into the physical gird. There are 5 subtle bodies In astral projection the conscious mind leaves the physical body and moves into the astral body to experience. In astral projection you remain attached to your physical body by a 'silver umbilical type cord'. Some people are able to see the cord when astral projecting. To astral project, as with all out-of-body experiences, one must feel totally relaxed, clothing fitting comfortable, reclining is best. Often a comforter is best over the body as the physical body sometimes gets cold when you travel out.
At first it may be difficult to achieve but like everything practice makes perfect. When I was beginning to learn to astral project, I remember snapping back to my body and “waking up” every time as soon as I realized I was out of body. That’s normal. Sometimes I would even drift off to sleep and not remember a thing, only to have a friend call me later to tell me they dreamed of me. It’s really funny! I always get a person’s permission before entering their mind, infringing on free will can have some very negative karma flow back. But should any of these things happen during your own practice, just remember it’s part of the journey to astral projection. Don’t worry and just try again next time!
How To Astral Project
Monroe Institute Steps
My favorite way to go into an Astral Projection. Bob Monroe, founder of the leading research organization in the field of human consciousness called The Monroe Institute, wrote a book “Journeys Out of the Body” in 1971 in which he provides a detailed outline for how to astrally project one’s self in seven steps:
Step 1: Relax, both physically and mentally.
Step 2: Enter a hypnagogic state, or half-sleep.
Step 3: Deepen the state by prioritizing mental sensation over physical sensation.
Step 4: Pay attention to the presence of vibration in your environment, which becomes apparent in a state of deep attention.
Step 5: Incur the vibration in your physical body, and relax into its presence. The purpose of this is to gently jiggle the subtle body out of the physical body.
Step 6: Focus your thoughts on leaving the limbs and the torso, and try to do so one at a time.
Step 7: Known as “lifting out,” focus on effortlessly drifting out of your physical body.
The Astral Projection Rope Technique
From the work of Robert Bruce, founder of the Astral Dynamics movement, the rope technique is regarded as one of the most accessible astral projection methods. Personally when beginning I found this to be the easiest and quickest method.
Step 1: Relax the physical body by visualizing each muscle.
Step 2: From your space of relaxation, enter a vibrational states; this should feel like an amplified version of a cell phone’s vibration mode pulsations coursing through the body.
Step 3: Imagine a rope hanging above you.
Step 4: Using the astral, or subtle, body, attempt to hold on to the rope with both hands. The physical body remains completely relaxed.
Step 5: Begin to climb the rope, hand over hand, all the while visualizing reaching the ceiling above you.
Step 6: Once you are aware of your full exit of the physical body, you are able to explore the astral plane.
Edit : Shortly after posting this blog in a conversation online an experience was shared with me. This person said that they had started to astral project unintentionally but had to stop as it was a traumatic experience for them and they would get lost. This is not astral projection, astral projection is intentional. What this person experience was an unintentional OBE which can be scary depending on where you are in your own mind upon entering.
